What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

'Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians' is the most extensive works on western music, and has been greatly edited and revised since the original version was published in 1879 - 1889. This fifth edition of the work, published in 1954, was edited by Eric Blom, resulting in the most thorough revision of the work since it was originally published. Many articles were re-written in a more modern style. This edition included a list of contributors from previous editions to the front of Volume I. Eric Blom was a musicologist, music critic, and music biographer. He was best known for his work on 'Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians', but also edited 'Everyman's Dictionary of Music' and 'Music & Letters', an academic musicology journal. He was skilled at languages, being fluent in English, German, Danish, Italian, and French, and he translated many entries for his revision of 'Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians'. With a frontispiece to each volume. With five plates to Volume I, twelve plates to Volume II, two plates to Volume III, sixteen plates to Volume IV, two plates to volume V, twelve plates to Volume VI, seven plates to Volume VII, and eleven plates to Volume VIII, with further in-text illustrations throughout. Collated, complete.
