Description

Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

This edition contains the final revised edition, prepared by Malcolm Cowley based on notes for a revision left by Fitzgerald upon his death. The revised edition is order chronologically, versus the 1934 publication which uses flashbacks. Some suggest that Cowley's revision was an answer to critic's negative comments on the temporal structure of Fitzgerald's original version of the novel.

In the original unclipped dustwrapper.

'Tender is the Night' is the fourth and final novel by the Jazz Age American novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald. The novel follows the glamorous couple Dick and Nicole Diver as they rent a villa in the South of France.

Fitzgerald begun writing this book after his wife, Zelda, was hospitalised for schizophrenia in Baltimore, Maryland. During this time Fitzgerald rented the La Paiz estate in the suburbs of Towson in order to be closer to Zelda, and this was where he began writing 'Tender is the Night'.

'Tender is the Night' is considered to be one of the greatest novels of the twentieth century. Fitzgerald considered this novel to be his greatest work, though now 'The Great Gatsby' is probably his best known work.

With a preface by Malcolm Cowley.
