Folding Maps, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

This work is a reclassification of the Southern African Mammals, from 1758 to 1951, reclassified due to the newer types found since the last work. With a frontispiece and two folding maps. Written by John Ellerman, T. C. S. Morrison-Scott, and R. W. Hayman. Ellerman was a shipowner and natural historian. He was often said to be the richest man in Britain after inherited his father's fortune. He also published 'The Families and Genera of Living Rodents' and 'Checklist of Palaearctic and Indian Mammals, 1758–1946'. Terence Morrison-Scott was a zoologist who was the Director of the British Museum of Natural History, who also worked with Ellerman on his works on Palaearctic and Indian mammals.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. A little fading to the spine and minor marking to the boards, heavier to the rear board. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper, 'Given to M. W. W. by Peter Crowcroft'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
