Illustrated with a frontispiece and six double sided photographic plates, and with a folding map to the rear. Collated, complete.
With the bookseller's label of a Bulwayo bookshop to the front pastedown, and contemporary inscription 'Bulwayo '53' to the front free endpaper. Bulwayo is the Zimbabwean city in which this book was published.
The missionary and archaeologist Jones was ordained in 1909 and was appointed a missionary at Hope Fountain near Bulawayo in 1912. His archaeological interests began to develop with his discovery of an important Early Stone Age site at the Mission the following year and he went on to play the leading role in the early development of Stone Age archaeology in Zimbabwe.
Jones served as President of the South African Archaeological Society 1953-54.

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Fading and light handling marks to back strip, with rubbing to spine head and tail. Boards bright. Bookseller's label to front pastedown, inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound, with the exception of one gathering that is detached and loosely inserted. Signed to title page. Spotting to first few leaves, with pages otherwise clean and bright.
