A memoir on Ling Shuhua's childhood and early life, an interesting work on the Chinese modernist writer and painter.

The work is dedicated to Woolf and Sackville-West; Ling had an affair with Woolf's nephew, Julian Bell, between 1935 and 1937. After this she was able to start a correspondence with Virginia, writing to each other during 1938 to 1941, with Woolf agreeing the read drafts of this memoir.

With an introduction by Vita Sackville-West.

Published by the Hogarth Press, the Bloomsbury publishing house founded ran by Leonard and Virginia Woolf. The press was founded in the interwar period, as printing became a hobby for the couple, diverting Virginia when her writing became too stressful. Both Woolfs' taught themselves to use a printing press, publishing 527 titles from the period of 1917 to 1946.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart. A few light marks to the boards. Light bumping to the spine. Dustwrapper is a little edge worn, with some light marks and a touch of discolouration. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
