A lovely collection of twenty thrilling Westerns published by Corgi Books, an imprint of Transworld.

Including;

'Gun Law at Vermillion' by Matt Stuart, published in 1952. Four pages of adverts to the rear.

'The Smoky Trail' by Matt Stuart, published in 1953. Six pages of adverts to the rear.

'Arizona' by Clarence Budington Kelland, published in 1953. Two pages of adverts to the rear.

'Thunder on the River' by Charlton Laird, published in 1953. Four pages of adverts to the rear.

'Blood Brother' by Elliott Arnold, published in 1954. This was adapted into the popular 1950 film 'Broken Arrow' which starred James Stewart and won a Golden Globe. One page of adverts to the rear.

'Trouble Shooter' by Ernest Haycox, published in 1954. This novel was the basis of the 1939 film 'Union Pacific', directed by Cecil B. DeMille, starring Barbara Stanwyck and Joel McCrea. The film won the first ever Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Three pages of adverts to the rear.

'Lost Wolf River' by Dwight Bennett, published in 1954. Dwight Bennett was the pen name of Dwight Bennett Newton, and was one of the founders of the 'Western Writers of America'.

'The Hunter' by James Aldridge, published in 1954. Four pages of adverts to the rear.

'Bonanza Gulch' by Matt Stuart, published in 1954. 

'Gunsmoke Valley' by E. E. Halleran, published in 1954. Five pages of adverts to the rear.

'Man Without a Star' by Dee Linford, published in 1955. This was made into a 1955 Western starring Kirk Douglas.

'Sundown Jim' by Ernest Haycox, published in 1955. One page of adverts to the rear. This was made into a 1942 film.

'Tejas Country' by Frank Miller, published in 1955.

'The Shining Mountains' by Dale Van Every, published in 1956. Three pages of adverts to the rear.

'Painted Ponies' by Alan le May, published in 1956. Six pages of adverts to the rear. This was the author's first published novel, about the Cheyenne and the U.S. Cavalry horse soldiers. 

'Yellow Hair' by Clay Fisher, published in 1957. One page of adverts to the rear.

'Beyond Law' by Frank B. Linderman, published in 1957. Two pages of adverts to the rear.

'Guns of the Timberlands' by Louis l'Amour, published in 1957. This noel was made into a 1960 technicolor lumberjack Western by Robert D. Webb, starring Alan Ladd, Jeanne Crain, and Gilbert Roland. One page of adverts to the rear.

Condition

In the original publisher's paper wraps. Externally, generally smart. Some light edge wear to the wraps, heavier to the spines. Some light creases and rubbing to the spines. Minor marks and faint spots to the wraps. A small amount of loss to the head of the front joint of 'Thunder on the River'. Some spots to the fore edges. Small tide mark to the rear wrap of 'Pay-Off at Ladron'. Tidemark to the rear wrap of 'Tejas Country'. Spine of 'Blood Brother' is a little warped. Hinges are starting a little due to the binding. Internally, firmly bound, 'Lost Wolf River' is tightly bound. Pages are lightly age toned and clean with a few occasional spots. Faint tide mark to the first few pages of 'Blood Brother'. Stamp to the half-title of 'Lost Wolf River'. Marks to the first few pages of 'Bonanza Gulch'. Binding of 'West of Abilene' is broken between pages 162 and 163, page 163/164 is working loose.
