The Sands of Mars was the first published novel by the famous science fiction writer, Arthur C. Clarke. This is the first edition of that novel.

The story is set on the planet of Mars, which is used by humans as a research establishment. This was written in 1951, before humans had achieved space flight. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece showing the map of Mars. In the unclipped dust wrapper.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, very smart with only minor shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. The dust wrapper is sound, with some shelf wear and edge wear, and minor chipping as well as some punctures to the spine. The spine of the wraps is chipped and punctured, with a minimal loss to the head and tail of the spine. With a bookseller sticker to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. With a minor tidemark to the gutter affecting the leaves from page 95. Not affecting the text. The pages are otherwise clean with only a touch of age toning, as usual. Illustrated with a frontispiece.
