Fortune describes the Qabalah as 'the traditional mystical system of Israel', and that 'it also formed the basis of mediaeval magic'. She explains that 'this book deals with the work of the modern Qabalists as a contribution to the psychology of Mystical experience, and also throws much light on the nature of primitive religions and the Mystery Cults'.

Dion Fortune was the co-founder of the Fraternity of the Inner Light, an occult organisation that promoted philosophies which she claimed had been taught to her by spiritual entities known as the 'Ascended Masters'. She is recognised as one of the most significant occultists and ceremonial magicians of the early twentieth century.

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with price clipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart, with light bumping to back strip head and tail. Discolouration to dust wrapper back strip, with small loss of paper to back strip tail, and chipping and further loss to back strip head. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. With light pencil notations throughout.
