Description
Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper
The sixth in Wilbert Awdry's 'Railway Series', this was the first book in the series to feature five stories rather than the usual four and to refer to the Fat Controller by name, Sir Topham Hatt. This edition contains the use of a racial expletive, removed in subsequent editions.
With five stories, being 'Coal', 'The Flying Kipper', 'Gordon's Whistle', 'Percy and the Trousers' and 'Henry's Sneeze'.
Delightfully illustrated throughout in colour by C. Reginald Dalby.
Written by railway enthusiast and children's author Reverend Wilbert Awdry, best known for this series, in which originates the character Thomas the Tank Engine.
Complete with a superior and unclipped dust wrapper.
A truly exception copy of this delightful and enormously successful children's work.
Condition
In the publisher's original full cloth binding with an unclipped dust wrapper. Externally lovely, with just a touch of general wear. Dust wrapper is a touch bumped to the head and tail of the spine and the extremities, with a small closed tear to the base of the front board, but is otherwise in excellent condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with no prior owner inscriptions or marks.
