First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

Early edition, no edition remarks but most likely the first printing. 

With an ink inscription from author to title page, which reads 'With best wishes- John Parris'. 

Illustrations include nineteen full-page illustrations, made up of maps of the local area as well as various black-and-white photographs.

This is an uncommon work by John Parris which relates stories and anecdotes that are important to the Cherokee community, particularly within the Asheville, North Carolina area. 

Stories in this work include 'The First Invader', 'Red Pawns', 'The English Steal a March', 'The Cherokee Save Andrew Jackson', and 'Tsali's Sacrifice'.

With a foreword by Harry E. Buchanan, president of the Cherokee Historical Association. 

With another ink inscription from a prior owner, which reads 'With kindest regards from George A. Owl Della B. 7-12-50 Cherokee, N. C.' Owl is mentioned in the preface by the author, where it says 'to George Owl and others of his race who have fought successfully to convince Hollywood that the Indian was not always the villain'. 

Undated, dated through similar copies held at the University of Virginia and the Amherst College Library. 

Collated, complete.

Condition

In the publisher's original paper wraps. Externally, smart. Minimal wear to the extremities and the spine, including the head and the tail of spine and along the joints. Staple binding is now exposed to the rear paste down, with the odd spot to both sides of wraps.Prior owner's ink inscription to front paste down, with author's ink inscription to the recto of title page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean throughout, with very light age-toning to the margins of text.
