A wonderful sixteen volume collection of The Papers of Thomas Jefferson. 

All are first edition copies with volumes one and two published in 1950, three and four in 1951, five and six in 1952, seven and eight in 1953, nine and ten in 1954, eleven and twelve in 1955, thirteen in 1956, fourteen and fifteen in 1958 and sixteen in 1961. 

Thomas Jefferson was one of the Founding Fathers and served as the third President of the United States from 1801 to 1809. He was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence and was a proponent of democracy and individual rights. 

The volumes are edited by Julian P. Boyd and Lyman H. Butterfield and Mina R. Bryan are the associate editors. The purpose of the work is to present the writings and recorded actions of Thomas Jefferson as accurately and completely as possible. 

The first volume covers the period 1760-1776 and has fourteen plates. Volume 2 is from 1777 to 18th June 1779 and has eight plates. Volume 3 is from 18th June 1779 to 30th September 1780 and has five plates. Volume 4 is from 1 October 178- to 24 February 1781 and has six plates. Volume 5 is from 25 February 1781 to 20 May 1781 and has eight plates. Volume 6 is from 21 May 1781 to 1 March 1784 and has eleven plates. Volume 7 is from 2 March 1784 to 25 February 1785 and has nine plates. Volume 8 is from 25 February to 31 October 1785 and has ten plates. Volume 9 is from 1 November 1785 to 22 June 1786 and has seven plates. Volume 10 is from 22 June to 31 December 1786 and has ten plates. Volume 11 is from 1 January to 6th August 1787 and has eight plates. Volume 12 is from 7 August 1787 to 31 March 1788 and has nine plates. Volume 13 is from March 7 to October 1788 and has ten plates. Volume 14 is from 8 October 1788 to 26 March 1789 and has ten plates. Volume 15 is from 27 March 1789 to 30 November 1789 and has eight plates. Volume 16 is from 30 November 1789 to 4th July 1790 and has twelve plates.
