1949 Northanger Abbey
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Early Edition, Publishers' Original Binding
This Goldfinch Titles second edition of Jane Austen's posthumously published novel 'Northanger Abbey' features illustrated pastedowns, depicting scenes of Strawberry Hill and Bath's Assembly Rooms. Despite being Austen's first novel prepared for publishing, it was not presented to the public until after her death, satirising Gothic novels and, as many of Austen's works, features a young heroine seeking out not wealth or social acceptance but genuine happiness and morality. Second edition, in unclipped dustwrapper. Bookplate of John Jordan to recto of front free end paper. A wonderful parody of contemporary popular literature, Austen's 'Northanger Abbey' is well presented in this Goldfinch Titles edition.
