Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper
An early edition, published in 1948, six years after the first limited and signed edition. A collection of short stories by Evelyn Waugh. This collection came together after Waugh's work on a novel was interrupted as he was commissioned to join the Royal Marines. The novel was left in fragments which were published in this volume, hence the title Work Suspended. With 'Mr. loveday's Little outing,' 'Cruise,' 'Period Piece,' and others.
With unclipped dustwrapper.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding with titles stamped in gilt to spine. Externally lovely with minor shelfwear and slight bumping ot head and tail of spine. inscribed by a previous owner to half title page, dated 1949. Dustwrapper is unclipped and sound with slight shelfwear and minor loss of tail of spine. Faint marks to front wrap and slight chipping to edges. Slight sunning to spine of wrapper. Internally, firmly bound. The odd faint spot to title page, otherwise pages are bright and clean.
