Description

Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

Written by John K. Sidebottom OBE (1880-1954) a philatelist, who wrote this volume based on his collection of Thomas Waghorn covers. Thomas Waghorn (1800-1850) was a Navy officer and postal pioneer known for his promotion of a new route between Great Britain and India through Egypt overland, before the Suez Canal was created. He alleged that his new route cut the journey time down from about three months in steamships to around forty days, and cut five thousand miles from the journey.

In the publisher's original binding, with an unclipped dust wrapper.

Contains a number of maps, and both full plate and vignette illustrations.

Published for the Postal History Society.

Condition
