The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original price-clipped dust wrapper.

Previous owner's ink inscription to the front free end paper, dated 1948.

Illustrated with sixteen reproductions by artists such as Degas, John Piper, Rubens, and George Stubbs, and seven original illustrations by Gertrude Hermes, Bernard Meninsky, Morris Kestelman and Mervyn Peake. Collated, complete.

This work was published as the first of a series of books under the title of Harvest. The theme of this book is travel, which is variously interpreted as a physical but also intellectual and spiritual journey. This collection includes literary pieces such as 'How to Look at a Country' by Vita Sackville-West, 'From Worsley to Manchester' by Samuel Smiles, 'The Weird Journey' by Mervyn Peake, and many more.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original price-clipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is generally smart, with marks to the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Dust wrapper remains bright but is chipped to the upper extremities, particularly to the front of the wrap, and to the tail of the spine, with tape repairs to the reverse of the wrap. Shelf wear to the folds.
