Brillat-Savarin was a French lawyer and politician, famed as an epicure and gastronome.
His work Physiologie du Gout was originally published in 1825 and has not been out of print since; it contains aphorisms and reflections on food and eating habits, for examples on taste, gastronomy, appetite, obesity, fasting, restaurateurs, and much more. The author is considered as the father of low-carbohydrate diets, as he thought sugar and white flour to be the cause of obesity.
