What Our Customers Say...
Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper
Comprising of his 'Cautionary Tales for Children', 'New Cautionary Tales', 'The Bad Child's Book of Beasts', 'More Beasts for Worse Children', 'More Peers', 'A Moral Alphabet' and 'Ladies and Gentleman. Illustrated throughout, with numerous drawings by B.T.B and Nicolas Bentley. A reprint of this 'Album Edition' which was first issued in 1940. This early reprint is from 1947. Hilaire Belloc's comic verses for children were extremely popular. His 'Cautionary Tales' were a parody of the popular 19th century cautionary tales. Although much of his works were supposedly for children they are more to adult and satirical tastes.
In publisher's cloth binding and held in original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, excellent with just some minor bumping to the head and tail of spine. Offsetting to endpapers. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown, Henry Sotheran Ltd. Dustwrapper is very smart. Sunned, particularly to the spine, both the front and rear wraps have occasional spots. Slight rubbing to the joints and to the head and tail of spine. A few small chips to the head and tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. A few light spots to foredge, affecting occasional page. Loosely inserted is two leaves from this title, but not this particular copy.
