This work is here translated into English by Powys Mathers, from J. C. Mardrus's earlier French language translation. The Mardrus/Mathers editions were first published in 1923.

Often known in English as 'The Arabian Nights' this work was collected over many centuries by various authors, translators, and scholars across West, Central, South Asia and North Africa with the tales themselves tracing back to ancient folklore.

Famed tales within include that of Sinbad the sailor, Ali Baba and Aladdin.

With the charmingly illustrated bookplate of Edward Craven to the front pastedown of each volume, and a further pencil inscription to each front free end paper.
