First and early printings of Hamish Hamilton's 'Novel Library' series of the works of Austen.
Present here are the 1947 first edition thus of 'Emma'; the 1949 first editions thus of 'Mansfield Park' and 'Pride and Prejudice'; the 1948 first editions thus of 'Northanger Abbey' and 'Sense and Sensibility', and the 1949 third impression thus of 'Persuasion'.
In the very scarce original glassine, and held in a patterned paper covered slip case. In attractive full calf bindings.
A lovely collection of the works of the beloved English author famed for her early nineteenth century Regency novels, celebrated for their commentary upon the British landed gentry.
Condition
In the publisher's original calf covered boards, with glassine dust wrappers, and a patterned paper covered slip case. Externally, fine. Slip case in excellent condition, with light rubbing to perimeters of each board. Significant portions of glassine back strips of three volumes lacking, with one front and rear wrap detached from one another. Small losses of paper to tail of three dust wrappers. Significant closed tear and loss to head of 'Mansfield Park' rear wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
