First edition. Signed by the author to the front endpaper, dated June 1946. Illustrated with a colour map frontispiece, forty-five maps, many of which are folding, and three folding diagrams. Collated complete. The author's account of activity from his relinquishing of the command of the Eighth Army and returning to England to take over 21 Army Group in preparation for the invasion of North-West Europe, to the Battle of the Rhine and the surrender. Written by Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein, a senior British Army officer who served in the First World War, the Irish War of Independence, and the Second World War. Previously held in the library of Sir Robert Francis Mudie, a British civil servant and a member of the British Indian Civil Service during the British Raj. He was the last British and colonial Governor of Sind and served as the first Governor of West Punjab in the Dominion of Pakistan.
Condition
In the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. The odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light spotting to the extremities. A singular worm hole from the title page to the seventh page. Author's inscription to the front endpaper. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown.
