The first Dutch editions of 'The Moon is Down' were printed in small limitations in 1944 in defiance of the Nazi regime in occupied Holland, clandestinely printed for the purpose of sustaining the Resistance.
With a small number of vignette illustrations.
The best known work of American literature in the Soviet Union during the Second World War, the novel details the military occupation of a small town in Northern Europe by the army of a nation at war with England and Russia. It appears to be reminiscent of the occupation of Norway by the Germans.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth backed paper covered boards, with price unclipped dust wrapper. Head of front board a touch age toned, otherwise externally excellent. Tail of front hinge strained, but holding firm. Dust wrapper age toned to back strip, with light edgewear to back strip head. Light spotting to rear wrap, and dust wrapper reverse. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned due to paper type, but clean.
