A set of fourteen adventure novels following the popular pilot hero James Bigglesworth, more commonly known as "Biggles".
Created by World War One pilot, William Earl Johns, better known by his pen name Captain W. E. Johns. These stories were aimed at young readers and feature Biggles on an array of air adventures.
Each book is adorned with its own full page illustrations, most commonly by Alfred Sindall, who also drew the daily strips Paul Temple in the London Evening News, and Tug Transom in the Daily Sketch.
In the publisher's original dust wrappers, all of which are unclipped with the exception of 'Spitfire Parade'.

'Biggles Air Commodore' (1948) – Fourth printing. Seven full page illustrations by Alfred Sindall.

Condition
In the original cloth binding. In the original dust wrappers, all unclipped except for 'Spitfire Parade'. Externally, the majority of these works are very smart, with only slight shelf wear. 'Baltic' and 'Commodore' have fading to the spines. Water staining to the rear board and white marks to the front board of 'Sees it Through'. Dust wrappers are smart, with edge wear, heaviest to the spine head and tail, and marks to the wrap. Notably, with chipping to the spine head and tail of 'Defies the Swastika'. Spots to the wrap of 'Secret Agent'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean across the set. With a few scattered spots to the first and last few leaves of 'Air Commodore', 'Spitfire Parade', 'in Spain', and 'Swastika'. With offsetting to the endpapers of 'South Seas' and a contemporary ink inscription to the front pastedown of 'Goes to War'.
