First edition, in original publisher's cloth binding with clipped dust wrapper of one of Freya Stark's
early works.
East is West is Stark's account of her travels in the Middle East, including Arabia, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Iraq and Persia and their war experiences.
During World War II, Stark was sent by the British Ministry of Information to spread the British cause in these areas, particularly in Yemen (Syria) and Cairo (Egypt) where she spend some time.
Includes 85 monochrome plates and a map.
There is an ink inscription from a prior owner to the recto of the first free endpaper.
Condition
In original publisher's cloth binding with clipped dust wrapper. Dust wrapper is worn and slightly torn to the extremities. There is some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. There is an ink inscription from a prior owner to the recto of the first free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
