Description

The first UK edition, first impression, in the publisher's original price unclipped dust wrapper.

Steinbeck's novel follows the inhabitants of a street in Depression era California that is lines by sardine canneries. The novel follows the local grocer, marine biologist, and the leader of a group of downtrodden people.

This first UK edition was published in three variant bindings, with no established priority. This is the second variant, bound in orange cloth.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with price unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, exceptionally bright, with light fading to back strip tail. Light spotting to fore edge of dust wrapper back strip. Dust wrapper bright. Tape repairs at dust wrapper reverse to back strip head and tail. Small loss of paper to back strip head, with two significant closed tears to back strip head and tail. Back strip head and tail lightly age toned. Small loss of paper to head of front wrap, with one small closed tear to the tail of the front wrap, and another to the rear wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
