Uniformly bound in the publisher's original paper covered boards. 

Publisher Collins decided to launch this series of social history books to boost morale at a time when most of Europe was occupied by Germany. 

It also served as a way to preserve the British way of life, with an array of talented authors that contributed their own specialty subjects. 

Each volume is illustrated with numerous black and white in-text illustrations, as well as either eight or twelve colour plates.
