The first edition of this work. Gifted to Naomi Mitchison by the author who inscribed the front free endpaper "N. M. from L. B. L.," dated September 1941. Comprising a selection of poems by Lilian Bowes Lyon, British poet and first cousin to Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
Naomi Mitchison was also a British poet and novelist, writing over ninety novels in her life. The Corn King and the Spring Queen is considered one of the finest historical writers in the twentieth century.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally sound with minor shelfwear and slight bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities. Minor red mark to front board with faint spotting. Cloth to spine has faded. Poet Naomi Mitchison's bookplate to front free endpaper. Inscribed and signed by author to front free endpaper "N. M. from L. B. L.," dated September 1941. Small bookseller sticker to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Minor faint spotting to fore edge, not affecting pages that remain bright and clean.
