'Surfeit of Lampreys' is a crime novel by Ngaio Marsh, and is the tenth novel to feature the fictional detective Roderick Alleyn. The plot of this work centres around the murder of a British peer, and was published under the title of 'Death of a Peer' in the United States. The British title is a reference to the food poisoning to which Henry I succumbed to.
Ngaio Marsh (1895-1982) was a New Zealand mystery writer and theatre director, often known as one of the 'Queens of Crime' alongside Agatha Christie. She was also appointed as A Dame Commander of the British Empire in 1966.
Dust wrapper has had several tape repairs, including a facsimile to half of the spine and a full repair to the rear.

Condition
In the original cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, generally smart. Minimal bumping to extremities and spine, with fading along fore edge of front board as well as a damp stain mark to rear board. Light age-toning to paste downs and end-papers. Dust wrapper is sound with a few marks and age-toning to front wrap. Tape repair to reverse of wraps, with half of spine provided in facsimile as well as full repair to rear wrap. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are a bit age-toned with the occasional spot.
