Vol V is displayed in the original second impression dust wrapper, but is actually the first impression of this work. 

This is an informative set of ornithological handbooks, which describes and analyses the appearance and behaviour of numerous British birds. 

Vol I contains 'Crows to Firecrest' with thirty-three colour plates and numerous in-text illustrations. 

Vol II contains 'Warblers to Owls' with thirty-colour plates and numerous illustrations. 

Vol III contains 'Hawks to Ducks' with thirty-nine illustrated plates. 

Vol IV contains 'Cormorants to Crane', with thirty-three illustrated plates, figures, and maps. 

Vol V contains 'Terns to Game-Birds' with additional corrections and a 'systematic list and indices'. With twenty-two illustrated plates. 

Edited by H. F. Witherby, with contributions from Rev F. C. R> Jourdain, Norman F. Ticehurst, and Bernards W. Tucker.

With an ink inscription to the paste downs of volumes, belonging to Q. O. R. Hockcliffe. 

Collated, complete.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrappers Externally, very smart with minimal bumping and just a bit of light fading to the spines of some volumes. Dust wrappers are very smart, with minimal edge wear and just a bit of chipping to spine region. Light age-toning to spine region and to the top edges of fly leaves and reverse. Small closed tear to the rear of Vol IV. Front hinge is starting to Vol I. Prior owner's ink inscription to front paste downs. Endpapers are lightly age-toned with a few spots. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, with light age-toning to pages. Colour plates are very bright and clean.
