Number thirty-seven of one-hundred and twenty-five limited edition copies signed by the author, with only ninety-nine of these ever made available for sale.

With a small number of illustrated vignettes by Charles Child.

Cabell viewed his novel as a retelling of the true story behind Hamlet, basing his tale on the work of Danish historian Saxo Grammaticus.

Kirkus Reviews termed this a 'slightly salacious' retelling.
