A smart first edition of ‘Oriental Assembly’ by T. E. Lawrence. Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence (1888-1935) was a British archaeologist, army officer, diplomat, and writer, renowned for his role in the Arab Revolt (1916-18) and the Sinai and Palestine Campaign (1915-18) against the Ottoman Empire in the First World War. Lawrence’s vivid descriptions of his activities and associations earned him international fame as ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, a title later used for the 1962 film based upon his wartime activities. ‘Oriental Assembly’ is a compilation of Lawrence's miscellaneous writings, including The Changing East, the original introductory chapter to Seven Pillars of Wisdom, and others. Containing a frontispiece, and numerous illustrations, as well as 111 plates to the rear.
Condition
In the original publisher’s full cloth binding, with gilt title to the spine. Externally, very smart. With just a few minor markings to the rear board and very minor edgewear to the extremities. With ‘A. Cheney Bolton’ bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Some very light spotting to some pages, predominantly endpapers and pastedowns. Otherwise, pages are bright and clean.
