Written and illustrated by Chiang Yee, self-styled as "The Silent Traveller", a Chinese poet, author, painter and calligrapher who was a nominee for the 1973 Nobel Prize in Literature. A collection of written observations on the life and scenery of the United Kingdom and the United States compared with Oriental customs. Each comment is presented with the author's calming philosophy on life and a friendly curiosity of different cultures. This set includes: The Silent Traveller in London, 1945. Sixth impression, originally published 1938. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, thirteen black-and-white plates, and many in-text images. Collated complete. Condition

In the original beige cloth binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and minor bumping to the extremities. The odd small mark to the boards and fading to the spine of The Silent Traveller in Boston. Both The Silent Traveller in London and The Silent Traveller in War Time include the original price-clipped dust wrappers. Wrappers are sound with shelf wear and light chipping resulting in loss to the head and tail of the spines. Tide marks and age toning to the wraps. The odd small closed tear with a 2" and 1" closed tear to the front panel of The Silent Traveller in London. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot and light scattered spotting to the first and last few pages. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpapers.
