A fascinating, week-by-week account of Master John Jellard's journey around the world on his barque ship, the 'Avery'. This journey took John Jellard over a year to complete.
He named this ship after his brother-in-law and co-owner, Joseph Clarke Avery.
Containing three plates: a frontispiece portrait of John Jellard, a portrait of Joseph Clarke Avery, and a drawing of the barque, the 'Avery'.
Also containing the bookplate of Harold E. Matthews to the front pastedown and a previous owner's ink signature to the front pastedown.
A newspaper clipping concerning Ronald Avery, the great-nephew of Joseph Clarke Avery, has been tipped in to the front free-endpaper.
This copy came from the library at Julians Park, Hertfordshire, the previous home of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (1902-1968). She was an English socialite and through her mother was the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding, Externally, very smart and bright. Some minor shelf wear and fading to the spine. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Previous owner's ink signature to the front pastedown. Newspaper clipping is adhered to the front free-endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Light spotting to the fore-edge and a few spots to the pages, but they are generally clean.
