The thirteenth edition of the work, as demand increased yearly and teaching and practice surrounding construction changed. First edition of the work published in 1888.

Originally compiled to provide a handbook for students and practitioners regarding building, construction and drawing. This work was designed to meet the requirements set by examiners, such as the Royal Institute of British Architects. 

This work was originally published in two volumes, with elementary and an advanced versions. This is the Elementary Course. The original work was written by Charles Mitchell. This particular edition was put together by George Mitchell, based on the work of Charles Mitchell, who was his father.

With three pages for notes to the rear of the work. Not filled in. With folding plate of photographs showing the architecture of a church following page 132. With original author advertisement papers.

Condition

In original publisher's cloth binding with unclipped dust wrapper. Externally smart with light wear to the extremities. Light bumping to head and tail of spine. Light rubbing and the occasional mark to boards. Offsetting and the occasional mark to endpapers. Slightly cocked. Dust wrapper unclipped with slight chipping, mainly to head and tail of spine, with the occasional closed tear. Tear towards head of spine, resulting in loss to the dust wrapper. Light age toning and the occasional mark to dust wrapper. Light spotting to inside of dust wrapper. Internally firmly bound. Pages clean with light age toning.
