Three first edition volumes of the Chums Annual from the years 1938, 1939 and 1940.
Chums was a boys' weekly newspaper founded in 1892 containing stories of various lengths, articles, pictorial articles, verse, humour and music.
The 1938 volume contains the magnificent book length story of the Great War, The Masked Pilot by Major Lionel S. Metford and various other long and short complete stories. With three colour plates and a colour frontispiece to 1938.
Within the 1939 annual there is the book length story, The Black Knight by Arthur S. Hardy and the pictorial article Buffalo Bill amongst other wonderful stories. With three colour plates and a colour frontispiece to 1939.
The 1940 annual contains the story Forbidden Peaks by Garth Clinton, the article All About Ice Hockey and Sport in a Nutshell amongst other articles, stories and tales. With three colour plates and a colour frontispiece to 1940.
Collated, complete.
Condition
All are in the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some fading to the spines and bumping to the head and tail of the spines. A previous owner inscription to 1939 dated 1939. Front hinge of 1938 is starting but is firm. Internally, all are firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages.
