The scarce first English language edition of this work from German zoologist Erich Dautert, illustrated throughout with photographic plates.

In an engaging first person narrative, Dautert details his departure from a small university town in South America to his adventures on a whaling station, time with the sealers, and adventures hunting seal, reindeer and whales in Antarctica, with the aim of gathering specimen of fauna to return to his university.

Illustrated with sixteen plates. Collated, complete.

Condition

Rebound in full cloth, with endpapers renewed. Externally, exceptionally smart. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age toned, marked and spotted throughout, with light stains to the perimeters of a number of pages.
