    First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

    The first edition of this work. Illustrated, with a frontispiece and nine plates. Collated, complete. From the library of Katherine Leeds. With her inscription to the front pastedown. Katherine was the wife of the 10th Duke of Leeds. She was also known as Lady Katherine Frances LAmbton and was the second daughter of the 2nd Earl of Durham. A detailed biography of this important Renaissance humanist.

    Condition

    In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Evidence of damp staining to the boards. Light bumping to the head and tail of spine. Prior owner's inscription to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Scattered spots to the first and last few pages as well as to the fore-edge.
