What Our Customers Say...

Description

Early Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Signed

The tenth impression of this fascinating work on the culture and politics of Europe, written by American journalist John Gunther.

This is one of Gunther's popular socio-political series 'Inside' books. This series of continental surveys detail Gunther's travels through the region, interviewing political, social, and business leaders, reviewing area statistics, and then wrote a lengthy overview of what he had learned and how he interpreted it. This work is dedicated to Europe, and includes many descriptions of the dictators of Europe, such as Adolf Hitler and Mussolini.

Including an inscription from John Gunther to Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie, an extravagant socialite and renowned beauty of the Edwardian period. Impeccably connected, Pleydell-Bouverie was also the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII, and rumoured to be a lover of King Edward VIII. A sparkling figure of fashionable society, her friends included Nancy Mitford, Coco Chanel, Winston Churchill, and Fred Astaire.

This copy came from the sale of Pleydell-Bouverie's personal library at Julians Park, Hertfordshire.
