Description

Illustrated, Leather Binding, Very Scarce

Two half calf volumes of a very scarce mid nineteenth century periodical focusing on the burgeoning chemical and mechanical developments of the day. Replete with numerous illustrations of machinery and other scientific curiosities.

Bound in two half calf volumes are various issues of a publication that underwent a name changes during these years.

Present in Volume I, and bound with title pages, are Volumes I and II of 'The Penny Mechanic; A Magazine of the Arts and Sciences'. Dating from vol. I issue I, November 5th 1836 to vol. II, issues LXXVIII and LXXIX, April 7th 1838, these two volumes are bound with title pages and featuring an index to the rear. This volume is collated and complete.

The spine label of Volume II indicates that it should contain volumes five and six of this publication, by this date titled 'The Mechanic and Chemist'. Present first and without the title page are issues 1-12,14-18, 20-24 and 27-39 of Volume V. Next appears the title page of 'Vol. IV.-1839.', with issues 1-38 of Volume VI of the magazine present, and with issues 12, 13 and 27 absent.
