The first edition of the work. Uncommon. With a frontispiece, twenty three monochrome plates and decorative map endpapers. Collated complete. With two loosely inserted advertisements for the publisher, Blackie, showcasing their Autumn Announcements, 1935. By Jack Hides, an explorer of the previously Australian controlled territories of Papua and New Guinea. Hides led several expeditions in the early 1930s in the area and wrote profusely on the subject, with this work being his first on the subject.
Condition
In the original green cloth binding. Externally smart with slight bumping to the extremities. The odd mark to the boards. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with scattered spotting heavier to the first and last few pages and the fore edge.
