What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Limited Edition

Number 90 of 250 copies of the first UK edition limited edition of this play in the publisher's original paper wraps. The Three Wayfarers was dramatised by Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) from his pastoral story entitled "The Three Strangers". This story was originally published in Longman's Magazine and Harper's Weekly, and became a part of his collection of short stories in Wessex Tales (1888). Thomas Hardy was initially enthusiastic about staging theatre adaptations of his work, but the lukewarm critical reception for his adaptation of Far From the Madding Crowd (1882) left him wary of the damage that adaptations could do to his literary reputation. However, in 1908, he became involved with a local amateur group, later known as the Hardy Players. The international success of the play, The Trumpet Major, led to a successful collaboration between Hardy and the Players over the remaining years of his life.
