First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

Complete set in four volumes in five containing the whole history of The Times, from its foundation in 1785, to 1948. First trade edition, published simultaneously as a first limited edition of one hundred and twenty five copies.

Published in occasion of the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the first publication of The Times. These are first editions published from 1935 to 1952. These volumes form a true homage to one of the most important British newspapers. 

An extensive work, illustrated with numerous full page plates of portraits, facsimiles of letters, documents, articles, &c, photographs and more, as well as in text illustrations. 

Each volume complete with its vanishingly scarce, unclipped dust wrapper.

The collection consists of: 

Volume I, 'The Thunderer in the Making 1785-1841', complete with tipped in coloured frontispiece and twenty-seven full page plates as well as other illustrations in text; 

Volume II, 'The Tradition Established 1841-1884', complete with tipped in coloured frontispiece and thirty full page plates; 

Volume III, 'The Twentieth Century Test, 1884-1912,' complete with tipped in coloured frontispiece and forty full page plates; 

Volume IV, in two parts. Part I, 'The 150th Anniversary and Beyond, 1912-1920, complete with tipped in coloured frontispiece and ; and Part II, 'The 150th Anniversary and Beyond, 1921-1948,' with appendices and index, complete with with tipped in frontispiece and twenty-five full page plates.

Condition

In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally lovely with minor shelf wear only, minor bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities. Dust wrappers unclipped and sound with shelf wear, sunning to spine, chipped to head and tail of spine, some loss to spine vol. I. Internally, firmly bound. Light minor spotting to fore edge, not affecting pages that remain bright and clean.
