No. 218 of 700 limited edition copies printed on parchment in the publisher's original boards.

Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, ten colour plates including aquatints, forty-five plates of pen drawings, woodcuts, and metal engravings, two plates of lithographs, and numerous in-text illustrations. Collated, complete.

Daniel Baud-Bovy (1870-1958) was a Swiss writer and art historian. In this work, he explores the art of engraving, from the first woodcuts until the 18th century, by Swiss artists such as Hans Holbein, Ludwig Hess and Jean Huber, among others.

Condition

In the publisher's original boards. Externally fairly smart, with some age toning and a few small marks to the boards. Small indentation to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for spotting to the first and last couple of pages. Small closed tears to the fore edge of the last three pages.
