Two children's books by Erich Kastner, famous German author known for his humorous and witty poems, as well as his children's books featuring the character of Emil, in particular 'Emil and the Detectives,' which was his first major success and the only one of his pre-1945 works to escape Nazi censorship.
He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature for six years.
Comprising the following:
'Emil and the Detectives,' later edition of 1955. Originally published in English in 1931. With an introduction by Walter de la Mare.
'Emil and the Three Twins', the first English edition. Translated from the German by Cyrus Brooks.
Both featuring lovely illustrations.
Condition
In the original publisher's uniform yellow cloth bindings. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only, lightly bumped to head and tail of spine and extremities. Boards 'Emil and the Three Twins' gently marked. Previous owner's pictorial bookplate to front pastedown 'Emil and the Three Twins.' Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
