The Cheap Edition, complete in eight volumes, without bibliography as called for. Planned by Lord Actor, and edited by Sir A W Ward, Sir G W Prothero, and Sir Stanley Leathes. Originally published in 1902.
First Series. A second series followed between 1957 and 1979 titled 'The New Cambridge Modern History.'
Comprised of: The Renaissance; The Reformation; The Wars of Religion; The Thirty Years War; The Age of Louis XIV; The Eighteenth Century; The United States; The French Revolution; Napoleon; The Restoration; The Growth of Nationalities; The Latest Age; and Tables and General Index.
A fourteenth volume of Atlas was also issued, not included in this set.
Condition
In the original publisher's uniform full cloth binding. Externally very smart with light bumping to head and tail of spine. Boards only lightly marked. Minor closed tear to tail of rear joint vol II affecting spine slightly horizontally with a light lift of back strip. Minor fading to back strip of the occasional volume. Neat previous owner's gift inscription to front free endpaper vol XII, dated 1943. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
