Description

Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

Bound in the publisher's original cloth, with the original, unclipped and vanishingly scarce dust wrapper.

Fifth edition, first published in 1920.

Written by Sir Henry Rider Haggard, an English writer of adventure fiction romances set in exotic locations and a pioneer of the lost world literary genre. Fictional character, Allan Quatermain, an English hunter of big-game, appears in many of Haggard's novels, with the heroic protagonist being portrayed in film adaptations by actors including Patrick Swayze, Sean Connery and Richard Chamberlain.

In this particular novel, Allan Quatermain and Lady Ragnall inhale taduki, a fictional drug that induces visions of previous incarnations, causing Quartermain to relive the experiences of ancient Egyptian aristocrat Shabaka.

With a previous owner's ink inscription of G. W. W. Mann.

Condition

Bound in the publisher's original cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with minor shelf wear. Scattered spotting to the fore edge and endpapers, with an ink inscription to the front endpaper. Front hinge is a little strained, but holding firm. Dust wrapper is generally smart, with light chipping to the extremities and loss to the head of the spine. The odd mark to the wrap, with a touch of sunning to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, with spotting to the first and last pages.
