Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, Very Scarce

The first edition of this very scarce work in a quarter cloth binding with the original pictorial boards. Ink inscription to the front free end paper. Illustrated with 4 colour plates by the author. Collated, complete. In this brightly illustrated volume, Katharine Pyle retells captivating tales from around the world, including the Russian fairy tale of the Baba Yaga, the Norse story of the Three Billy Goat Gruff, and the Native American tale Mudjee Monedo, among others. Katharine Pyle (1863-1938) was an American illustrator and author during the Golden Age of Illustration in America. Her brother Howard was also a writer and illustrator. This work is becoming very rare, particularly in the first edition.

Condition

In a quarter cloth binding with the original pictorial boards. Externally, very smart and bright, with just some light shelf wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are clean but age toned, as is usual for paper of this age.
