Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Signed, With Dustwrapper

The very scarce first edition of this work, signed to the half-title page by the author, with the original unclipped dustwrapper. 'Latin in Church' looks at the history of the pronunciation of Latin in churches, with the author arguing that there wasn't a standardised pronunciation, until travel to Italy became more possible for those in England. Frederick Brittain was the Lecturer in Medieval Latin Literature and Keeper of the Records, Jesus College, Cambridge. He also published 'It's a Don's Life' and 'Fifty Years at Jesus'. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper, 'Mr W. Elphinstone'.
