Two volumes of 'Film Pictorial Annual', being the annuals for 1935 and 1937.
The annual for the popular 'Film Pictorial' magazine, which was later absorbed into 'Picture Show'. It was a popular source for information during the Golden Age of Hollywood, these annuals containing a variety of articles on the prominent actors, actresses, and films of the previous year.
Each volume illustrated profusely throughout.
1935, with Katharine Hepburn to the front board, including 'Great Garbo's Unknown Lover', 'We Always Called Her "Boo" by Evelyn Laye's Mother', 'At Home with Edmund Gwenn', 'Guying Hollywood', 'The Screen's Most Gracious Lady', and more. Including plates showing portraits of Loretta Young, Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, Norma Shearer, Jean Harlow, John Barrymore, Joan Crawford, Bing Crosby, and more.
1937, with Claudette Colbert to the front board, including 'The Gallant Life of Norma Shearer', 'The Story of Things to Come', 'The Life Story of Clark Gable', 'This is Why Hollywood Goes to Palm Springs', 'Movie-Making Round the World', and more. Including plates showing portraits of Fred Astaire, Shirley Temple, Joan Crawford, Ginger Rogers, Gary Cooper, Anna Neagle, and more.
Condition
In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding with pictorial papers to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Light bumping to the spines and extremities. Minor marks and a little rubbing to the boards. Spines are a little faded and spotted. A little loss of paper to the rear board of 1935. Hinges are starting but firm. Prior owner's gift inscriptions to the recto to the front endpapers. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are age-toned and clean with a few light spots.
