The first edition of this work, in the very scarce original glassine.
The first published edition of a work of juvenilia from beloved Regency era novelist Jane Austen.
Handwritten in Austen's own hand, and featuring sixteen of her early short works in a variety of genres - short stories, playlets, verses, moral fragments - the work was completed on the 3rd June 1793. Completed when Austen was eighteen, the earliest fragments in the collection where completed when she was only eleven or twelve years old.
The manuscript was purchased by the Bodleian Library in 1932 for £75, and quickly published in this edition.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth backed paper covered boards. Externally, fine. In the original glassine, with a closed tear to the head of the fold of rear joint. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
