What Our Customers Say...

Description

Folding Maps, Illustrated, Limited Edition, Pleasing Copy, Publishers' Original Binding

Richard Hawkins was a renowned seventeenth century English seaman, explorer and pirate, who saw considerable action against the Spanish Armada. After sailing to South America to raid the Spanish colonies on the Pacific coast, Hawkins produced a fascinating account of this privateering venture, detailing notable geographical discoveries and detailed descriptions of wildlife, that was printed shortly after his death in 1622. This work was edited from Hawkins's original text of 1662, with an introduction, notes, and appendices by the renowned English writer on maritime history James A. Williamson. Collated, complete with four maps, two of which are folding. This work is the thirteenth publication of the 'Argonaut Press'. This is a limited edition copy, numbered in ink '209' of four hundred and seventy five copies printed on Japon vellum, to the uncut limited edition colophon to the rear of the work.
